The Wall Street Journal is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented associate producer to join the audio team, working across our news and features shows to book guests, write scripts and edit audio on daily and weekly deadlines.

This position is full of opportunities to learn and grow in a dynamic news organization. Some days, you may be writing and mixing for What’s News; on others, you may be finding guests for The Journal Podcast. You may also help with long-form features or short-form news updates and with show development.

Top candidates for this position will have a professional background in journalism, top-notch writing skills, and some experience producing in the studio and in the field. They will have a deep curiosity for business and financial news, enjoy researching a diverse slate of complex topics and relish the opportunity to work on stories from start to finish.

This position will report to the Development Producer, Audio and is based in our New York City office.

You Will

  • Research and pitch topics of interest to the Wall Street Journal’s audience.
  • Source timely news and archival audio.
  • Record dynamic and engaging interviews in the studio and in the field.
  • Book a range of diverse and interesting interview guests, along with planning and executing remote interviews.
  • Work with reporters and editors across the newsroom to find story ideas and arrange interviews with key sources.
  • Fact-check and ensure that the highest journalistic and legal standards are followed.
  • Work to improve the social media presence of podcasts, internally and externally.
  • Coordinate with editors to ensure podcasts are embedded in Wall Street Journal articles and promoted in newsletters.
  • Be flexible to work late hours and weekends as production and news developments may warrant.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.


You Have

  • At least 2 years of experience working in a news environment, preferably a daily news environment at a global news organization.
  • A professional-level understanding of Adobe Audition and/or Pro Tools software.
  • The ability to convey news and tell stories in creative and engaging ways.
  • A track record of producing high quality audio content efficiently and under tight deadline constraints.
  • Some background in story research and planning.
  • Exceptional written, communication and collaboration skills are a must.
