Position: Clinical Research Coordinator, Infectious Diseases

Location: Boston, MA

Schedule: 40 hours per week, hybrid

POSITION SUMMARY :

The CRC will conduct day to day coordination of study procedures and implementation for an NIH funded study examining COVID-19 and long COVID. The coordinator will oversee administrative and research assistants and will conduct follow-up visits for study participants in this study at Boston Medical collecting samples and administering surveys to acute and recovered COVID-19 patients.

Working closely under the Program Manager and with the General Clinical Research Unit (GCRU), the Research Coordinator will support any study procedures (e.g., phlebotomy, physical exams, etc.) in the inpatient and outpatient BMC clinic space. Additionally, Research Coordinator will work with other external clinical departments to schedule specialized clinical study visits.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Understands all study documents and protocols closely, and performs staff training related to study. Provides input on improvement of study flow and implementation.
  • Assists in planning for and participates in community engagement planning and execution related to the study.
  • Oversee administrative and research assistants who will also be assisting in conduct of study activities.
  • Maintains follow-up and retention for subjects participating in post-acute sequalae of SARS-CoV2 (PASC)/long Covid study, following approved research methodologies.
  • Schedules appointments of study participants in BMC outpatient clinic space, following up with over-the-phone pre-visit questionnaires, email reminders, e-consents, etc. Interacts with BMC clinic space to schedule study visits.Tracks longitudinal patient progress through study protocol milestones, including any online surveys and patient reminders.
  • Performs clinical assistance, working closely with the study’s clinical research unit, including but not limited to collection of NP/OP, blood, andurine samples.
  • Tracks and confirms sample chain of custody between hospital and Pathology lab.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Performs office-related duties such as storing study office documents and confidential study materials, scanning, filing, photocopying, collating materials, maintaining the update of study procedure manuals and schedules of events, etc.
  • Tracks study supply inventory to obtain approvals for and proceed with ordering necessary study clinical supplies and additional supplies.
  • Maintains Institutional Review Board (IRB) approvals and correspondence, including amendments and renewals as necessary. Adheres to human subjects regulatory requirements throughout the course of the study.
  • Prepares sample collection kits for enrolled participants, including sample labels. Adheres with maintenance of deidentified patient data and sample collection as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in public health or related science field preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in a clinical research setting, assisting with protocol implementation, and previous managerial experience highly desirable.
  • Spanish and/or Haitian Creole language skills highly desirable.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Previous experience interacting with and managing study subjects with an understanding of the ethical and technical conduct of research preferred
  • Excellent oral (including English) and written communication skills.
  • Bilingual or multi-lingual skills, especially Spanish and/or Haitian Creole, is desirable.
  • Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of social, racial and ethnic populations.
  • Proficiency with REDCap data entry and maintenance, as well as Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat/Reader andweb browsers.

This position is grant funded through 5/2025. There may be opportunity beyond this grant funding for position integration into ongoing operations.
