Ehrhardt Automation Systems is hiring a Controls Engineer for our Granite City, IL office.
Full-time Monday-Friday position with occasional travel to customer job sites, can include weekend travel.
Starting pay range is $85,000-$95,000 with straight-time overtime after 45 hours.
Position Summary Responsible for performing complete systems engineering f o r in d ustrial a uto mation pro j e cts. Engineering to include component sizing and selection. Candi d ate should have extensive knowledge with motor drives, progr a mmable con t rollers, oper a tor interfac e s, field devices, communication networks, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, machine safety, and a good understandi n g of mechanics. Candidate will be re s ponsible for the d esign, impl e mentation, and testing of automation systems working in a project team e nv ironment.
Job Descrip t ion Respon s ibilities: - Analyzes the mechanical design, review customer's requirements, and specifications to determine the optimal controls system solutions.
- Interfaces directly with M echan i cal Engineers, Tooling Designer, and the pro j e ct manager to support an on time on budget machine delivery.
- Support pro c urement and presents status and options as required to maintain budget and delivery schedule.
- Supports m a nufacturing to assess progress, provi d e technical a s sist a nce, final inspection and sign off.
- Provide on-s i te controls system start-up as require d .
- Review pro j e ct hardware/software for compliance with app l ic a ble codes/standards and assure personnel/machinery safety p r actices are f u lly implemented.
- Responsible for m eeting project sch e dule, engin e ering hour b ud g ets, and customer satisfaction targets for o w n ac t ivities or on a project leadership basis if assigned in suppo r t of the assigned project team.
- Identifies sc o pe deviatio n s ear l y and often and communicates e a rly and of t en the impact to hardware cost, schedule, resource needs or skill se t s to the pro j ect manager and department manager.
- May assist s a les by providing project scope d e finitions, hard w are and labor estimates for proposals.
Minimum E xperience/Education: - Bachelor’s degree in Engineering discipline.
- 3+ years rel a ted experie n ce in i ndustrial controls system applications related to variable speed drives, Servo drives systems, P L C , H M I and industrial automation systems.
- Minimum of 4 years related expe r i e n c e in electrical design, safety system de s igns including schematics and panel layouts, applying and progr a mming VFD drives, Ser v o Drives, PLC’s and HMI’s.
- Minimum of 4 years related expe r i e nce in fluid power design, including pneumatic schematics and hydraulic schematics systems, applying and programming drives, PLC’s and HMI’s.
- Minimum of 3 years related expe r i e n c e of c ontrols system appli c ations throughout the project life cycle from initi a l des i gn concepts through installation and subsequent client support.
- Ability to design systems util i zing Au t oCAD electr i cal.
- Extensive knowledge of Allen-Bradley Powerflex drives, Kinetix drives, Studio 5000, F actory Talk
- Vie w , GuardLogix Controllers, Sensors, Analog sensors, and PLC platforms.
- Kno w ledge o f Siemens S I MATIC prog r amming desired.
- Knowledge of codes and s tandards applicable to in d ustrial cont r ol systems including NEC, NFPA79, U L508A, and UL 698.
- Product and/ or Progr a m development experience.
General Ski l ls/Qua l ifications: - Must be available and willing to work overtime on o ccasion to m eet custo m e r pro j ect commitmen t s.
- Occasional (typically 30% o r l e ss), travel required and work at customer sites.
