Who We Are: The Timothy School is the oldest non-profit approved private school in Pennsylvania devoted exclusively to teaching students with autism. For over 50 years, we have worked to develop an understanding of autism that recognizes the strengths and uniqueness of our children and the specialized methods needed to expand their educational opportunities.
Job Snap Shot: Under the general supervision of the Executive Director, the Human Resource Generalist provides comprehensive administrative support across HR functional areas including recruitment and onboarding, payroll processing, employee records maintenance, benefits and leave of absence administration, performance management administration, regulatory compliance, offboarding and unemployment compensation administration. Serves as the first point of contact for employee questions. May be assigned occasional HR projects and initiatives.
Hours/Shift: This is a 35-40 hour per week position, with a work schedule of Monday through Friday, within the hours of 7:45 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a HR Generalist or similar role.
- Knowledge of HR principles and practices including demonstrated knowledge of state and federal employment laws and regulations.
- Understanding and willingness to perform in all HR functional areas and implement organizational policies and practices.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail, a sense of urgency; ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, ambiguous, and ever-changing environment.
- Ability to maintain high level confidentiality standards on matters of a sensitive and private nature.
- Exercise good judgement, ability to work independently, take initiative and problem solve, be proactive with addressing matters and performing job responsibilities.
- Strong computer skills including data entry, data processing, payroll and HRIS software.
- Effective listening skills, strong oral and written communication skills, and ability to develop strong relationships throughout the organization.
- Prior experience processing payroll preferred.
- SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or HRCI Professional in Human Resources (PHR) credentials desirable
Job Responsibilities:
- Recruitment
- Create job listings, schedule interviews, and communicate with candidates during all steps of the recruitment process.
- Prepare offers, collects mandatory clearances, and ensure new hire paperwork is completed accurately and timely.
- Provide a comprehensive onboarding and orientation program for new employees.
- Compliance
- Remain current on legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting HR functions.
- Maintain current government posting requirements.
- Implement employee handbook policies and procedures.
- Ensure that all reporting related to employment compliance is handled in an accurate and timely manner.
- Maintain knowledge of industry related regulations.
- Responsible for employee records management and control procedures for personnel transactions and reporting.
- Employee Relations/Performance Management/Training
- Provide customer service to employees by responding and answering requests and questions.
- Prepare employee correspondence relating to policies, practices, performance, corrective action, hiring, separations, promotions, transfers, etc.
- Revise and develop job descriptions as positions change or are created.
- Assist with performance review administration and tracking.
- Assist with coordinating and tracking training on various workplace topics (i.e., Safety and Health, Harassment, etc.).
- Benefits and Leave of Absence
- Coordinate open enrollment and serve as the primary point of contact for employee questions and support.
- Send newly eligible enrollment and any election changes as needed and update the HRIS system as appropriate for each benefit. This includes new hires, enrollment changes, newly eligible, and terminations.
- Maintain employee insurance files electronic or hard copies with documentation of enrollment and enrollment changes.
- Reconcile monthly benefit invoices, investigate and resolve any billing discrepancies.
- Manage FMLA, leave of absence and disability processes. Provide appropriate notification and paperwork to employees. Communicate leave status updates, leave of absence needs, leave extension and expiration with the Executive Director.
- Serve as the point of contact for Workers Compensation Claims and general accident/injury reporting. Maintain injury logs.
- Payroll Processing
- Prepares and submits semi-monthly payroll for Timothy School employees.
- Maintains accurate payroll information by collecting, calculating and entering data using established payroll policies, procedures and schedules.
- Updates payroll records by entering changes including but not limited to changes in personal information, taxes, wages, benefit elections, direct deposit, and position and departmental information.
- Works with supervisors to ensure employee timesheets are completed and approved.
- Completes payroll reports and audits payroll for accuracy.
- Termination and Offboarding
- Manage offboarding process for employees leaving the organization.
- Prepare termination letters, process employee terminations in the HRIS system, notify benefits vendors, ensure systems access is terminated and company property is returned.
- Facilitate exit interviews on all outgoing personnel.
- Administer the unemployment process and respond to unemployment claims.
