Responsibilities

This advisor's role is to help recent international admits feel supported and welcomed and help them transition from the role of admitted to enrolled student. Review and evaluate financial documents from students and scholarship/assistantship offer letters from departments to determine students’ initial eligibility for F-1 immigration status. Provide options, as appropriate, to students who are ineligible for F-1 status. Utilize immigration case management system, together with FSU student and admission application databases and SEVIS, to process I-20 applications and distribute initial I-20 immigration documents. Update Sunapsis and SEVIS records when students cancel, are admitted to a future semester, request updates, arrive on main or Panama City campus, or are approved for a change of status. Work closely with admitted students to provide timely and accurate information and service and follow up as needed with academic departments, the Office of Admissions and Records, and other university offices.

Work with program manager to review, update, and develop content for newly admitted students including website, webinars, video content, etc. as assigned. Participate in orientations, Q&As, webinars and other plans that facilitate new student integration into campus and community life. Participate in workshops and training for FSU department representatives as assigned. Provide feedback on existing efforts to communicate and instruct new students, and make recommendations for use of new technologies, services, etc. that enable us to best serve international students.

Maintain familiarity with all F-1 regulations and immigration law pertaining to initial and enrolled students. Advise students exploring change of status to F-1 and maintain records of students who may require a change of status in the future. Provide front-desk support as needed. Assist in helping students identify resources both on and off campus and help create supportive environment for international students.

Attend major CGE functions and SA functions as required. Serve on CGE, DSA, and university committees as needed. Participate in international education professional associations. Submit conference session proposals. Serve in leadership roles if appropriate opportunity available. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status (required by federal regulations for DSO role)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree
  • Experience serving as a Designated School Official (DSO).
  • Knowledge of Sunapsis student data management system
  • Experience working, studying or living abroad
  • Experience with initial I-20 process
  • Advanced expertise in use of database and data management
