We are seeking exceptional candidates with early childhood education and/or experience who love the idea of teaching through play and who want to make a difference in the lives of young children. Everyone you work with will be a caring professional dedicated to creating a wonderful place for children to learn and grow.
Tasks and Duties Interactions among Staff and Children ● Teachers are child-led, and keep children’s needs top of mind at all times.
● Teachers interact frequently through play and responsive conversations.
● Teachers encourage independence in routine activities and self-help skills in a
developmentally appropriate way.
● Teachers relate to each child as an individual and know the individual developmental
level and special needs of each one.
Parent Communication ● In-person communication happens daily in a positive and informative manner.
● Parent-teacher conferences for each child are conducted at least twice a year, and
include use of Teaching Strategies Gold assessment on specific developmental skills,
and goals.
● Written communication occurs daily through: Brightwheel updates, class newsletters;
and notices for special activities, classroom changes and transitions.
● Teachers collaborate with Child Development Specialist, Family CARES, and Site
Director for further assistance.
Curriculum and Documentation ● Classroom goals are listed according to the ages of the group and Open Door values.
● Teachers create a daily schedule promoting a balance of indoor/outdoor play,
quiet/active play; and promotes naptime, self-help skills, and health + safety.
● Lesson plans are updated on a weekly basis and are built around observations of
developmental milestones, individual needs of children, and special needs
accommodations as necessary.
● Lesson plans include activities that promote gross + fine motor development,
cognitive, social and emotional development, and multi-cultural experiences.
Activities should be both teacher and child-led and focus on social-emotional
development.
● Teachers document classroom activities through transitional chart, attendance sheets
and emergency forms.
● Teachers promote the value of equity through culturally responsive teaching and
promote anti-racist understandings in developmentally-appropriate ways.
● Teachers learn to meet any special needs of children in care including placements,
therapeutic exercises, and meetings with parents and therapists as needed.
General Responsibilities ● Teachers must follow through with any directions or tasks give by the Site Director.
● Upon arrival each family is greeted with kindness and respect.
● All teachers are responsible for keeping the entire school clean and in good repair.
● Teachers are responsible for checking email, Brightwheel, and boards for work and
schedule-related messages.
● Staff meetings and training days are mandatory unless otherwise noted.
● Teachers arrange classrooms to be safe, accessible, and
developmentally-appropriate
● If the classroom has a pet, quality care should be given: feeding, watering, cleaning
of cage, handwashing, appropriate and supervised interaction with the children.
Training and Professional Development ● Per NAEYC, teachers maintain 30 hours of training per year using the Open Door
teacher training plan and any evaluations or suggestions given by the Director.
● Teachers need to read, understand and put into practice information from Childcare
Minimum Standards, NAEYC DAP and Code of Ethics, ODP Staff Handbook, ODP
Parent Handbook, and Texas Rising Star program.
● Teachers participate in program activities such as family picnics, back to school nights.
● Teachers participate in community child development activities when possible.
Health and Safety ● Teachers are always meeting all childcare licensing requirements including supervision, CPR
and first aid, and daily health checks.
● 4-step cleaning process is used for all classroom and common areas.
● Teachers follow proper disinfection and diaper procedures at all times.
● Teachers are responsible for maintaining the classroom and common area equipment
to licensing requirements at all times.
● Ensure all accidents are recorded and a copy is placed in the child’s file. Parents
should receive a copy.
REQUIREMENTS
- Candidates must be dependable, flexible, and available to work regularly scheduled hours between 7:15am-1pm M-F.
- Minimum Requirements: High school diploma and some previous child care experience.
- Preferred Requirements: College credit in early childhood development and at least one year of prior child care experience.
- Education: ● HS Diploma (Required) ● Associate (Preferred) License/Certification: ● CPR Certification (Preferred) ● Child Development Associate Certification (Preferred)
- SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A BACKGROUND CHECK is required for all employees.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- $15.20/hour or more, depending on education and experience.
- Paid sick/vacation days and paid holidays for permanent staff working a minimum of 20 hours/week.
