Position Summary/Description:
The NRA Student Award Tax Accountant is responsible for the accurate and compliant processing of tax obligations for Nonresident Alien ( NRA ) student awards processed through the Student Account. Awards may be made through Financial Aid or the Graduate Student Funding System. The role involves collaborating with Payroll Services, Accounts Payable, International Students & Scholar Services, the Graduate School, Financial Aid, and IT to streamline the tax processes for NRA student awards, particularly by leveraging the University's Nonresident Tax Software, currently Sprintax. This role supports UNC's commitment to operational efficiency, compliance with IRS regulations, and provides essential guidance and support to nonresident students on their tax obligations and 1042-S documentation. The position plays a key role in the financial health and compliance of UNC's student award programs.
Education and Experience:
* Experience in tax compliance or accounting, with a focus on international tax issues.
* Familiarity with tax software, especially Sprintax or similar Nonresident Alien tax applications.
* Experience within higher education finance or managing student award processes.
